  • Google is working on a new video chat panel for Android that lets you apply a variety of visual and audio effects on video calls.
  • These effects include background blur, portrait lighting, portrait touch-up and studio-style MIC processing.
  • Although we saw the proof of the video chat panel in Android 16 Beta 4, the feature does not yet work, suggesting that it would roll out in future release.

If you want to see your best on video calls, you will need a magnificent camera, adequate lighting and a decent background. However, many people do not have an ideal setup for video calls, or they just do not have a great place to pick them up. This is why the best video chat apps provide various effects to help improve your video or audio quality. The exact effects available depend on the platform, however; Some apps may lack certain effects or can be applied in ways that can make the processor of the device. To address this incompatibility and possible performance hit, is developing a system-wide video chat panel for Google Android that will let you have an impact on any video call.

When digging through the fourth beta of Android 16, I discovered string for a new quick settings tile called “video chat”. Strings show that Android background blur (which stains your background environment), portrait relaying (which improves lighting on your face), portrait touch-up (which leaves your face behind to remove flaws), and will support the impacts such as the studio-style mike (which presses background noise). For the background blot, you will have the option to apply a light spot or a full spot for the background. Portrait relaying, portrait touch-up and studio-style mic effects are simple at simple/closed togle.

What does Android’s new video chat panel look like in Android 16 Beta 4:

Unfortunately, no effect currently works on my pixel phone. I launched a Google Meat Call and then enabled the effects, but nothing changed in my video feed. This feature probably depends on the seller – in this case, providing specific software library for Google -Each effect. Alternatively, the video chat panel cannot yet be done for the underlying camera framework in beta 4.

In any case, we expect these effects to work in any video chat app, because otherwise there will be very little point in creating a dedicated quick settings panels for them. Applying the impact system is a common practice on other platforms, so it would not be surprising to follow the suit for Android. Ease, the title of each string begins with “qs_desktop_efects”, suggesting that the feature can tie in ongoing efforts to enhance Google’s android’s desktop abilities. This connection makes sense, as desktop operating systems such as Windows and McOS already offer similar underlying video effect features.
