The gang is from Bihar and the person doing recce of the bank is from Lucknow.
Members of this Bihar-based gang punched a 2.5-foot hole in the wall of the Indian Overseas Bank in Chinhat on December 23. They looted valuables from 42 out of 90 lockers. The incident came to light on Sunday morning when a local veteran noticed a hole in the wall of the bank and informed the authorities about it. Police (East Zone) Shashank Singh said that the gang consists of seven members, out of which six hail from different mandals of Bihar. The seventh Babulal, Mukesh Kumar Verma, is a resident of Lucknow. It was Ankit Verma who had conducted the recce of the bank and had made arrangements for accommodation and vehicles for the gang members in Lucknow.
The security arrangement in the bank locker was not as per the standard.
He said, ‘The gang used professional cutters for the locker roller within 3-4 hours. Using them, the first detection of the motorcycle was made, after which three layers were identified. Lucknow’s Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Amit Verma highlighted the serious security arrangements in the bank. He said, ‘Out of the 7 supermarkets located in the bank, only 2 were working, and there was no night watchman. The wall of the bank was not removed through pieces of iron ore, making it very easy to break off pieces. There is a failure to keep up with the many stocks required for the security of bank locker facilities and these cashes have made the work of the machine easier.’
